I don't think people hate AI in itself. They hate how it's being used; they hate how it's being passed off as real art; they hate how it doesn't require any creative effort at all; they hate how it steals the jobs from the very artists it stole reference material from; they hate how people try to claim they created artwork that they let AI create for them.
Hate might not be the right word. They're just being fair. Newgrounds is a site that celebrates creativity. Nothing about AI is creative. Using AI is like cheating for a test.
There are other downsides to AI. It requires a lot of energy and resources, and mother nature is already very overworked. I heard some people got a Deviant art account just to opt out of their art being used to train AI. I think artists feel threatened. There are a lot of people that are upset that their art has been scraped, even if it's copyright protected, to train AI. They never gave consent to their work being used. There's a reason glaze and nightshade exist.
The way I see AI has the potential to kill creativity. If everything can be generated instantly where is the drive to create anything? It sucks the joy out of life for me. Nowadays you need to be able to prove that you actually created the artwork you post, you didn't need to in the past. Also worth mentioning is AI used for scams, deep fake, ai bots to spread propaganda. I feel physically bad when I see ai generated movies or artwork. They make me feel really uneasy for some reason.
AI is supposedly not all bad though. Neuro-sama is pretty neat. Also I hear it was able to produce an antidote for snake venom for rats. Perhaps it can be used for science, and education.
People seem to have an illusion that it can generate profit somehow and should only be used for that so perhaps not.
Yes, Newgrounds hates AI. And by "Newgrounds" I mean the community.
